| QUICK HISTORY…
With the enactment of the Rural Electrification Act of 1936, seed money became available from the government and Consumer Owned Utilities began to spring up around the country. Henry County REMC was incorporated in the spring of 1936 and entered into the business with dedication and vigor. In the spring of 1953 Henry County REMC became the nation’s first REMC to pay off their debt to the Rural Electric Administration. At that time the REMC became completely independent in its operations and remains so to this day. |

AND GENERAL FACTS! Each consumer must purchase a “membership” to receive service, thus the Co-op is owned by each member in equal fashion. Each member shares in the margins, if any, in proportion to their dollars spent for electric usage. The Co-op service area is divided into 12 districts. Each district elects a director who represents them on the 12 member Board of Directors. The Board of Directors set policy, etc., for the operations of the Co-op. The directors are nominated at a district meeting and elected at a General Membership meeting held annually. The Board of Directors employs management and staff to implement the policy of the Board. |
